Full Time Equivalent (FTE) is a method of resource planning based on the concept of work units.
One (1) FTE unit is analogous to one resource fully allocated for a period of time. All calculations related to resource availability and allocation are derived from a base unit of 1.0. The 1.0 represents the total potential availability of a resource based on the number of work hours available in a given time period.
Note: The time period is either a week or a month, depending on how you configure your view in the Resource Plan and Team Manager applications:
One (1) FTE is calculated from the number of work hours available in a given time period. The available work hours are determined by taking the hours from the Default Workweek Calendar for the enterprise and subtracting any non-working time related to that default calendar. Non-working time associated with other calendars or with specific users is not included in this calculation of the base FTE value.
1 FTE = (hours in the Default Workweek Calendar (for the time period) - Non-working Time applied to that calendar)
Note: An FTE is not necessarily 40 hours (if viewing by week) or 160 hours (if viewing by month). An FTE for a week might be 36 hours if that week includes 4 hours of global non-working time associated with the default enterprise calendar.
The capacity in FTE of individual resources is calculated based on their assigned workweek calendars, any non-working time and any existing workspace allocations.
If a user is assigned to the default enterprise workweek calendar, their capacity in FTE is: (1.0 - (any personal non-working time + any existing workspace allocations).
