About Copying and Pasting in the Item List

You can copy items in the dynamic application Item List and paste them to the same Item List or to an Item List for the same enterprise-level dynamic application in a second workspace.

Copying Items

You can select and copy one or more items. To select one item, click to highlight the item row. To select multiple items, press Shift+click (selects contiguous items) or Ctrl+click (selects non-contiguous items).

To copy selected items, press Ctrl-C or click the Copy button.

Pasting Items

To paste copied items, press Ctrl-V or click the Paste button.

Item Location and Copy/Paste

When you paste an item(s), the item(s) is added to the target Item List based on the sort order imposed on the target list. Items are added in the appropriate location(s), based on sort, but are given item numbers at the end of the Item List (if the list is sorted by Item Number, the pasted items are at the bottom).

Permissions and Copy/Paste

Normal PPM permissions are honored when copying or pasting a dynamic application item. You can copy any item you can see, but you can only paste an item into an Item List for which you have permission to create an item. If you cannot add an item to the application normally, you will not be able to paste a copied item into that application.

The ability to create a dynamic application item is determined by permissions set in the application. By default project managers and team members can create items.

Validation

If a copied item includes data that fails validation (an empty cell for a required field, for example), you will not be able to paste the item. This will be rare and is most likely to happen if an application is modified after items have been created, leaving items that are incomplete or invalid in some way.

Copy/Paste Between Workspaces

You can copy items from a dynamic application in one workspace and paste the items in the same dynamic application in another workspace (for which you have permission to create items).

Understanding when you can copy and paste items between workspaces can be confusing.

For more information about the difference between enterprise-level and workspace-level dynamic applications, see Types of Dynamic Applications.

Item Details and Copy/Paste

Pasted items retain certain details from the original item, while other attributes are discarded when the item is pasted. See Fields Copied and Pasted in the Item List.
