Creating an RSS Permalink

An RSS permalink allows you to receive an RSS feed using a reader that does not support authentication (this includes many web-based readers). A permalink also allows non-Changepoint users (individuals who do not have login access to Changepoint PPM) to access data in the RSS permalink, so you can share that data with others in your company, for example.

You can subscribe to an RSS feed or create an RSS Permalink on these tabs: Documents, Discussions, Issues, News, Polls, Tasks, and any Dynamic applications your organization has added as tabs. You can also subscribe to an RSS feed on a dynamic application custom view in a workspace. For more information, see RSS Overview.

Each permalink is created for a specific view. If you have multiple views on one application tab, creating a permalink for one view does not automatically create a link for any other view.

In order to create RSS permalinks, your Changepoint PPM enterprise must allow permalinks. These are enabled by default, but your Changepoint PPM administrator may disable them. If permalinks are enabled, a Generate permalink option is listed when you click the RSS icon on a page that supports RSS.

To create an RSS permalink:

  1. Navigate to the global application for which you want to create a permalink.
  2. Click the RSS icon at the bottom of the list view.
    Note:
If you do not see this icon, verify that a view has been defined for you in the application. The icon only appears on defined views in the applications listed above.
  3. Click Generate permalink.
Note: If you do not see this option, the ability to create permalinks is disabled. See your Changepoint PPM administrator for more information.
  4. The next step depends on whether or not you have an RSS Reader installed:
  5. If you have an RSS Reader installed, it may prompt you to add the link.
  6. If you do not have an RSS Reader installed, or if your reader does not prompt you to add the feed, the RSS XML displays in a browser window. Copy the URL from the browser address bar and paste it into an RSS Reader.

You can also copy the URL and send it to someone who does not have log on access to Changepoint PPM. They can add it to their reader and see the information contained in the feed.

    Note:
See documentation about RSS and RSS Readers for more information. You can find details about RSS and RSS Readers on the internet.
  1. You can change the format of the feed that your reader displays by adding one of the following switches at the end of the URL your reader uses to access the feed:
  2. ?html (this is the default)—The feed output is in HTML
  3. ?text—The feed output is in plain text
  4. ?xml—The feed output is in XML
  5. ?ppm6—The feed output is in PPM format

    Note:
Your reader may not support all output formats.

When the view changes, updated information is sent to your RSS reader. For example, if another Changepoint PPM user adds a task that appears on the view you subscribed to, that task will appear in your RSS reader.

You can see how often a permalink you created is access by clicking the RSS icon. One option will show the last date and time a permalink was accessed (when you create a link, you access it):
