When items are first created, they are by definition unread. Unread items can be easily identified in applications because their names appear in bold. You may want to change an item from "Unread" to "Read." Not only does this change the item visually, but it also makes it possible for you to filter the list based on whether the item have been read or not.
Note: Application items that exist in a workspace before you are added are considered "read" when you are added. Items created or added after you are a workspace member will be marked "unread."
