Polls are surveys sent to workspace team members in the form
of a question and several possible responses.
When you create a poll,
a notification is sent to the team members you specify. The notification
invites each team member to view the poll and submit their vote. When
a poll is finished, the poll creator views the results
and make a decision based on the opinions of all participating team members.
There are two Polls applications:
- Global
Polls Application—The
global Polls application is accessible from the Polls tab and displays
all the polls you have permission to view, from all of your workspaces.
To open the Polls application, click the Polls
tab. If you do not see the tab, the application may be hidden or
you may not have permission to access it. For more information about using
global application tabs, see Using
Global Application Tabs.
- Workspace-level
Polls Application—The
workspace Polls application is accessible from the Workspace Menu within a
workspace and displays polls related to that workspace. If you spend most of your time in a single workspace in PPM, you may find the workspace-level Polls application most convenient.
The Polls application gives project managers
a way to gather opinions from team members about a specific issue that
might impact a workspace.
Note: The List View of workspace-level polls includes a history column, indicated by a check mark. Until you vote in a poll, or if you do not have rights to vote, this displays the percentage of available voters who have voted. After you vote on a poll (if you have access), the column is marked with a check.
Example
Polls can be used in conjunction with Discussions to manage
changes in a workspace. A discussion allows users to respond to one another's
thoughts, and a project manager can take the results of a discussion and
create a poll based on the input. A project manager might create a Poll
entitled 'Should we postpone the milestone review?,' with possible responses
of Yes, No,
and Don't Care. Team members can
vote based on their knowledge and needs. When all team members have voted,
the project manager can view the results to make the decision.
