Using ProjectTransit - Initial Sync
|
Your workflow while using ProjectTransit depends on whether you are making the first synchronization or any subsequent synchronization.
The first time you use ProjectTransit with a PPM schedule, you do the following:
- Define the association (link) between your Microsoft Project schedule and your PPM project.
Note: ProjectTransit does not check for duplicate tasks. As a best practice, your initial synchronization should link one blank schedule and one existing schedule (with tasks). If your PPM schedule includes tasks, use a blank Microsoft Project schedule. If you start with an existing Project schedule, synchronize it with a blank PPM schedule. If you synchronize two schedules that both contain tasks, the tasks will be duplicated.
- Map resources (team members). Any resources with assigned tasks in PPM must also exist in your Microsoft Project schedule.
- Map custom task fields (if applicable).
- Copy existing task data from PPM to Microsoft Project and from Project to PPM.
Note: This step involves several sub-steps. For more details, see Synchronizing Task Data with ProjectTransit.
Important: While schedules are synchronized (linked), all calculations are managed by Microsoft Project. The PPM scheduling logic is not used.
