The Custom Fields wizard steps you through the process of
creating a custom field. In the first step, give the field a name, specify if the field should be required, and if you are creating a workspace custom field, select the category of field and the workspace types in which the field will be included.
Name the field and specify general options:
- In the Custom Fields wizard,
type the name of the new custom field in the Field
Name text box.
Invalid characters: exclamation or bang (!), semicolon (;), colon (:), comma (,), or dollar ($)
Note: If you give a custom field the same name as a native field (if you name a workspace custom field Budget for example), the native field is no longer accessible using reports, and any reports using the field will display data from the custom field instead. Renaming the custom field to a unique name corrects the problem.
- To make the field a required
field, select Field is Required.
If you designate the custom field as a required field, the field cannot
be blank. This means that if you are creating a user-entered field, the
user will be forced to enter a value in the field before they can continue
in the application.
- If you are creating a workspace custom field,
- Select the category of
the new field:
- Profile Field
Profile fields are used to describe a workspace and tend not to change
much unless the workspace type is edited.
- Status Field
Status fields are used for tracking information about the status of
a workspace and change over the life of the workspace.
- Specify the workspace type(s) in which the field should be included. You must select at least one workspace type. Your options depend on the workspace types defined in your enterprise.
