Workspace Types Overview

In Changepoint PPM, workspaces are based on Workspace Types. A workspace type is a framework that defines certain basic workspace elements.

By default PPM includes a basic Project workspace type. Depending on how your enterprise was configured, you may have other default workspace types as well.

As administrator, you can define additional workspace types for the various kinds of workspaces your organization regularly uses. When you define a workspace type, you choose settings that are inherited by any workspace created from that workspace type. Note: Request Types are based on workspace types. For more information about Request Types, see Request Type Overview.

Permissions

To create and manage (edit and delete) workspace types, you need the Workspace Types permission. By default administrators have this permission.

Working with workspace Types

• Creating a Workspace Type—Create workspace types for the different kinds of workspaces your organization runs.
• Editing a Workspace Type—Edit existing workspace types to change details in responses to changes in your organization.
• Deleting a Workspace Type—Delete existing workspace types if they are no longer necessary.

Note: You cannot delete a workspace type if there are any workspaces, Workspace Templates, Request Types, or Requests associated with the workspace type.

Examples of possible Workspace Types

• External Workspaces—Organizations that do work for and bill external customers could define a workspace type called External Workspaces for those workspaces. This workspace type might have External Billing enabled and custom workspace fields defined for customer name and location.
• Workspace-level Time Tracking—If you have workspaces for which you want time tracked at a workspace level rather than at a task level, you can define a workspace type for this. You might create a workspace type called PLTT-Workspaces and enable the Track Time at the Workspace Level setting.
• Ongoing Workspaces—By default the workspace type of workspace is defined to have definite start and end dates. If you have workspaces that are ongoing, you can define a workspace type for these and set the workspace is ongoing setting. Workspaces created from this workspace type will not include a start and end date.
• Parent Workspaces—If you use a hierarchical workspace structure, you can define a workspace type that specifies what (if any) workspace types can be child workspaces of the current workspace type.
