Dynamic Applications Overview |
One of the most powerful capabilities in PPM is the support it provides for custom applications. In PPM, custom applications are called Dynamic Applications.
While administrators can modify native PPM applications by adding custom fields, dynamic applications make it possible to create entirely custom applications that satisfy the specific needs of an organization.
Dynamic applications allow organizations the flexibility to do business in the ways their organizations require. With the right permissions, you can create and modify dynamic applications for gathering information specific to your organization and processes.
Dynamic applications differ from standard (native) PPM applications because you can create, modify, delete and customize them, as well as export and import them. Dynamic applications are defined with XML, and this allows you a great deal of flexibility and gives you a great deal of power. (Note: You can modify native applications by adding custom fields to them.)
For most users, there are no distinguishing differences between a native application and a dynamic application. You access and interact with both types of applications in the same ways. For those PPM users who need to manage dynamic applications, understanding how they differ from native applications is more important.
Administrators are the only PPM users with permission to create and manage dynamic applications at the enterprise level. By default, project managers have permission to create and manage dynamic applications within their individual workspaces.
PPM supports two variations of dynamic applications: enterprise dynamic applications, and workspace dynamic applications. For more details, see Types of Dynamic Applications.
