About Milestone Tasks

A milestone is a task that identifies a significant event in the schedule, such as the date that a number of tasks are due to start or the date a project phase will finish.

Milestones can be used by project managers to track the progress of the workspace. As tasks are completed and milestones met, the project manager can confirm that the workspace is on schedule.

Note: Milestones do not impact or change the percent complete (% complete) of a schedule. Milestones are reference points marking major events in a workspace and are not included when percent complete is calculated.

Special characteristics of milestone tasks include:

0 (zero) day duration
Milestone tasks have a duration of 0 days.
A task with a duration of more than 0 days cannot be made a milestone.
0 (zero) % complete or 100% complete
A milestone task is a point in the schedule and is either not met (0% complete) or met (100% complete).
