Where a Task is Added in the Task List
When you add or paste one or more tasks in the workspace-level Task List, the task(s) is added in one of two locations:
- Immediately above the selected task(s)
When the Task List is sorted by task # or Outline, and an existing task is selected, the new task(s) is inserted immediately above the selected task, at the same indentation level as the task above it.
- As the last task(s) in the list
In all other cases, the task(s) is added at the bottom of the schedule.
When no task is selected, or a task is selected but the Task List is sorted by any column except # or Outline, the new task(s) is added at the end of the Task List hierarchy (the new task(s) number will be higher than all existing tasks in the list).
Note: If an existing task(s) is selected, any pasted task(s) appear visually above the top-most selected task, but they will have numbers and WBS values that place them at the bottom of the list when the list is sorted by # or Outline.
When multiple tasks are pasted, they are pasted in the same relative order as they originally appeared when sorted on # or Outline. For example, if you copy tasks #2 and #5 and paste them into a schedule that has 15 tasks, task 2 becomes task 16 and task 5 becomes task 17.
Note: If adding/pasting a task in a particular location would violate a constraint or dependency in the existing tasks, a warning message displays and the task is left at the bottom of the schedule.
