About Auto-Workspace Naming

You can configure a Workspace Type for custom workspace naming. When you do this, each workspace of that type is given an automatically-generated custom name based on the custom name definition you create. The custom name replaces the regular workspace Name field in every location within PPM where the workspace name normally occurs.

With automatic workspace naming:

• All workspaces and requests created from the workspace type are named based on the Custom Display Field value you set when you edit the workspace type.
• If you change the Custom Display Field value after workspaces or requests have been created, you also change the names of the existing workspaces/requests. This change cannot be reversed.

This Auto Workspace Name Numbering technique can be especially useful if your enterprise runs many workspaces with the same name (for example, Network Maintenance). If you have multiple Network Maintenance workspaces, you can use auto-generated custom names that include incremented numbers:

Network Maintenance - 002

Network Maintenance - 003

Configure a workspace type for auto-workspace naming by editing the workspace type and changing the Set Display Custom Field value to something other than Default.
