To configure an auto-generated workspace Name, create 3 custom
fields and then edit the workspace type for which you want the custom names
to be automatically created. The custom display name replaces the regular
workspace Name field in every location in the PPM enterprise where the
workspace name normally occurs.
Important: If you configure a
workspace type with an auto-generated workspace name, all workspaces of that
type will inherit the naming convention. If there are existing workspaces their names
will be changed. Once the workspace names have been changed, you cannot
recover the original names.
Configuring an Auto workspace Name and Number is a multi-step
process:
- Create a custom Text field
that contains the first part of the new auto-generated name. In the example
above the field value for this text field would be Network
Maintenance -
See Creating
a custom Text field for details.
- Create a second custom
field, an Item Number field that contains the automatically incremented
numeric part of the new auto-generated name. In the example above the
field would contain the 001, 002, 003, values. You configure the starting
number and the increment number when you edit the workspace type for the
new auto-generated name.
See Creating
a custom Item Number field for details.
- Create a third custom field,
a concatenated Calculation field that combines the first two fields. This
is the field you configure as the Custom Display Field
value when you edit the workspace type.
See Creating
a custom concatenated calculation field for details.
- Configure the workspace type
to use the new concatenated field as the Custom Display Field.
See Configuring
the Workspace type for details.
Important: If you change
the Display Name Field of an existing workspace Type, you change the names of any existing workspaces created from that
type. This cannot be reversed.
