About Pane-List Interactions
|
The Add, Edit, Bulk Edit, Update and View panes that display in the Task List and dynamic application Item List display some special behaviors, based on how you interact with the list of items or task while a pane is open. (For details about the panes, see About Add, Edit, Update and View Panes.)
The Task List currently supports the Add, Edit, Bulk Edit and Update Panes.
The dynamic application Item List currently supports Add, Edit, Bulk Edit and View Panes.
Pane - List Behavior:
Filtering
Filtering with a selected item displayed in a pane:
- If a selected item is filtered out of the list, it is automatically unselected.
- The item is cleared from the pane.
- Any unsaved data in the pane is discarded.
Selecting rows
Selecting rows with the pane open:
- Selecting a row in the Task List or Item List while a different item is open in a pane:
- Discards any unsaved data in the pane and displays the newly selected item.
- Exception: The Add pane remains open with unsaved data retained. You can add items using the Add pane, even with a row selected.
- Selecting multiple rows while an item displays in the pane:
- Discards any unsaved data in the pane
- Exception: The Add pane. You can add items using the Add pane, even with multiple rows selected.
- Opens the Bulk Edit pane, if you have edit permission for at least one of the selected items (Item List).
- Displays a message indicating you do not have permission to edit selected items, if you do not have edit permission for all selected items (Item List).
- If Update pane was open, displays a message indicating that bulk update is not supported (Task List).
Note: Bulk delete is still possible, even when a pane displays a message indicating that bulk-update is not supported.
Editing rows
Editing an item in the List with the pane open:
- Double-clicking a row or cell:
- Discards any unsaved data and closes the pane.
- Exception: The Add pane does not close. You can add items using the Add pane, even when editing a cell in the list.
- Puts the clicked cell into edit mode (if applicable)
- Right-clicking a row or cell and selecting Edit <item> (Item List):
- Discards any unsaved data and opens Edit pane.
Editing an item in the List with the pane closed:
- Double-clicking a row or cell:
- Puts the clicked cell into edit mode (if applicable)
- Exception: If the row includes a required field that is empty and is not the cell you put into edit mode, the Edit pane opens (Item List).
Note: This is an uncommon situation, most likely to occur if a required field was added after items were added, or if an existing field was changed from optional to required.
- Right-clicking a row or cell and selecting Edit <item>/ Edit Task:
- Opens the Edit pane
Note: Because of the way these views work, especially when a pane is open, it is possible to run into issues if more than one user is attempting to make a change to an item. If another user has modified or deleted the item, a message displays, informing the user the item has changed and they need to refresh their view before continuing.
