Moving a Task by Number

This topic describes how to shift a task in the schedule by specifying a task after which to move it. For other ways to move a task, see Moving a Task in the Schedule.

Project managers can move existing tasks in the task schedule, or insert new tasks between existing tasks by specifying the number of the task that should immediately precede the moved task. Do this when you create a new task, or edit an existing task.

To move an existing task in the schedule:

  1. Navigate to the workspace to which you want to move tasks.
  2. On the Workspace Menu, click Tasks and Task List.
  3. Right-click on the task to open the context menu, then click Task Details.
    The Task Details window opens.
  4. On the Actions tab, click Edit Task.
    The Edit Task window opens.
  5. In the Advanced Information section of the Edit Task window, from the Insert after Task# list, select the task after which you are moving the current task.
  6. Click Save & Close to move the task and close the Edit Task window.

To insert a new task into the schedule:

  1. Navigate to the workspace to which you want to add tasks.
  2. On the Workspace Menu, click Tasksand Task List.
  3. Select the task that will immediately follow the task you are adding.
If you do not have a task selected, the new task is added at the bottom of the list.
  4. Click Add Task.
The Create New Task window opens.
  5. In the Advanced Information section of the Edit Task window, from the Insert after Task# list, select the task after which you are adding the current task.
  6. Click Save & Close to move the task and close the Create New Task window.
