About Report Prompts

Prompts allow a user to filter report data based on input. For example, if a report displays workspace health data you could add a prompt filtering the results by workspace type. A user running the report is prompted to specify a workspace type and the results of the report display results for only the selected workspace type.

Report prompts must be added to a report when it is created. For more information on creating prompts, see Using a Prompt (Query Studio) or Adding Prompts (Report Studio).

Complex Prompts and Simple Prompts

Some report prompts require simple user input, for example a workspace type. These prompts are simple prompts. Other prompts have options that change depending on earlier input from a user (the prompt options depend on other choices). These prompts are complex prompts. Both prompt types are valid, but some complex prompts may not support scheduling. For more information, see Report Scheduling Overview.

You can set default values for prompts. You might do this if you regularly run a report and select a particular prompt option. Setting a default for that prompt would mean you did not have to specify the prompt value every time you run a report. Another reason to set a default prompt value is if you are scheduling a report that includes a prompt. Reports with prompts can only be scheduled if you provide a default value for the prompt.

You can set default prompt values in three ways:
