Before you import workspaces be sure you have all the information
the import wizard requires:
- In
Step 1: Workspace Type.
You need to specify what Workspace Type the imported workspaces will have.
You can only import workspaces of one type at a time. The Workspace Type you
select impacts what fields are required later in the wizard. For more
information about Workspace Types, see Workspace
Types Overview.
- In
Step 2: Import File.
You need an import file (.csv or .xls format) with all the necessary
information about the workspaces you are importing.
Data for the Name field is required for all workspace types. Any custom fields that
are required for the workspace type you select must also be included in
the import file.
Note: If your file contains non-Latin characters, be sure
to save it as Unicode. If you do not, the non-Latin characters will not
import correctly.
- Step
3: Field Mapping.
You need to know how each field in your import file maps to PPM fields.
You must map any required fields. You also need to know what field types can be mapped. For details, see Default Field Values and Valid Entries.
- Step
4: Workspace Roles.
You need to know how each of the member fields you have mapped should
be associated with a workspace role.
- Step
5: Users.
You need to know how any user names from your import file should map
to users in PPM. Names in the file that exactly match names in PPM are
automatically mapped (you can unmap them if necessary). Names that are
not automatically mapped need to be mapped manually.
If you have not added the users to PPM, see Adding
Enterprise Users.
- Step
6: Preview.
Any errors in the import file data or field mapping is displayed in
this preview step.
All workspaces are listed along with an indication of if they are mapped
correctly
or contain errors
.
- Step
7: Summary.
This page displays the results of the import process including which
workspaces were successfully imported and which were not imported due to
invalid data.
Important:
If you re-import a file that includes data you imported before (for example,
a file in which you fixed errors), you may create duplicate workspaces.
Delete any data you have successfully imported from the import file.
