Viewing Critical Path in Gantt Chart

The task or tasks that determine the project finish date is called the critical path. Project managers can identify these tasks by viewing the critical path. The critical path can be highlighted in the Gantt chart and List views. (For information on displaying critical path in the Task List, see Viewing Critical Path in Task List.)

TO VIEW A schedule'S CRITICAL PATH in the Gantt chart:

1. Navigate to the workspace for which you want to view the critical path.
2. On the Project Menu, click Tasks and Check Out Schedule.
3. On the Tasks menu, click Gantt Chart.
   The Gantt chart opens in a new window.
   
4. On the Gantt chart toolbar, click the Show Critical Path icon:

   Tasks that directly impact the project finish date are highlighted red:

Note: If PPM is unable to calculate the critical path, the Show Critical Path option is disabled. For more information, see Troubleshooting Tasks.
